Iran, Venezuela, Iraq, the US military, the cartel takedowns, the dismantling of the corruption networks, and the IQD - read separately, they are noise. Read against a monetary system being rebuilt and re-backed, they are one operation.

Iraq's Oil Exports Are Back

Iraq's oil exports are back above 3.4 million barrels a day and the IMF says it will back Baghdad. What it means for the IQD.

Tuesday, October 20. Baghdad is selling its oil again at close to the pace it sold before the war.

On Monday Oil Minister Basim Mohammed Khudair told the state news agency that "the average volume of Iraqi oil exports this month has exceeded 3.4 million barrels per day." In September the figure was about 3 million. In March, the first full month of the war, the total for the whole month was 18.6 million.

That number did not arrive alone. Our last briefing was on Friday, and since then three things have moved. On Saturday the head of the IMF said the Fund will back Iraq with money and policy. On Sunday the Central Bank said Washington had cleared some of the country's exchange companies to sell dollars to travellers again. And by Monday's close Baghdad's street dollar had gone the other way.

Today: the oil, the Fund, the money changers, where the street stands, a second case at Iraq's top court, and the budget that is still not in parliament.
