When Will the Iraqi Dinar Revalue?
Nobody outside the room holds a date, and anyone who hands you one is guessing or selling. What to watch instead, and how to plan so the timing does not matter.
The honest answer is the one nobody selling you a newsletter wants to give: no one outside the room in Baghdad holds a date, and anyone who hands you one is guessing or selling. Usually both.
That is not a dodge. It is the single most important thing to understand before you spend another dollar or another hour on this. For 20 years the revaluation has been announced as next Tuesday. Every one of those Tuesdays came and went. The people making the calls were never wrong by accident. A date is what you sell when you want clicks, subscriptions, or a currency markup, and the date is always close enough to feel urgent and far enough that nobody remembers when it slips.
So if the date is unknowable, what is actually worth watching? The groundwork. A currency does not reprice on a wish. It reprices when the machinery underneath it is ready, and that machinery is being built in public, on the record. The budget mechanics. The oil and gas law that decides how the money is shared. The banking cleanup that cut Iraqi banks off from feeding sanctioned neighbors. The cabinet seats that command the security forces, which have to be filled before anything moves. These are the real tells, and they show up in public record weeks before any rate could go live. That is what we track, every single day.
Here is the part that turns the anxiety off. If you build so that the timing does not matter, then it does not matter. Plan as though this could resolve in 45 days or in 3 years, because both are on the table and neither is yours to control. Hold only what you can set down and completely forget. Get the boring pieces in place early, before you need them, so nothing is ever decided in a rush. Do that, and the question of when stops being a source of stress and becomes a thing you simply wait out, prepared.
Do not mistake a missing date for a missing event. The two are not the same. Here is what we hold, as our read: the repricing is real and the groundwork for it is visible in public record. The one thing none of us outside the room holds is the when.
The groundwork we watch is laid out in a free, detailed guide. Iraq: The Case for Revaluation walks the signed contracts, court rulings, and customs deadlines that show the machinery being built, and it is free with a Reset Intelligence account. Or read today's briefing free and follow the daily record yourself. The full history is in the book, Head of the Snake.
You cannot watch the CBI every morning yourself, so have the change emailed to you the day the Central Bank of Iraq moves the official rate, free. That is the one tell that is not a rumour.
