Iraq asks OPEC for a 6 million bpd baseline and its blocs agree terms on the oil law, with the 2027 budget due at the cabinet September 15.
Thursday, September 10. Yesterday Iraq walked into OPEC's capacity audit and filed a demand: a production baseline of 6 million barrels per day. Its current quota sits near 4.4 million. Its actual August output was about 3.4 million. So the ask prices the country a third above what the cartel allows it, and nearly double what it pumped last month. Baghdad attached its reason in dollars: a reconstruction bill it puts at $400 billion.
In the same stretch of days, Iraq's ruling coalition sat down over the federal oil and gas law, the one that has waited 19 years. It finalized consensus terms before sending the draft to parliament. The size of the income and the law that splits it, moving together.
