Global Currency Reset: What Iraq Shows Us
A global currency reset is a phrase with many meanings. Here is the part we can document: what Iraq has done, the sequence we see, and where the evidence stops.
The global currency reset is a phrase for governments changing how their currencies are valued, together or in turn. Nobody owns a single definition, and most of what circulates online cannot be checked. We cover the part we can document. For more than 20 years, people in this community have said Iraq is the linchpin of the global currency reset. The country has now acted, and our read of the first move sets out why that matters.
Start with the facts. The Central Bank of Iraq sets the official exchange rate, not the Finance Ministry, the budget or the media. The dinar's value was lowered at the official window. That is a fact, not a rumour. For the live figures, go to the Iraqi dinar rate page, which owns every rate question. We do not publish a rate of our own.
Our view is a sequence: devalue, delete, revalue. Lower the rate and unify it to one price. Take the zeros off the notes. Then raise the value. Step one is done. The government has also said its goal is one price, and Iraq's push for a single exchange rate shows how far apart the street and the bank still were when government spokesman Haider al-Aboudi put 1,550 on it.
Visible work backs the second step. Lawmakers disclosed that the Central Bank had finalized designs for a new series: 7.5 billion notes, at a cost of 250 billion IQD. That is enough paper to replace the entire series in circulation. A committee heard that 107 trillion IQD has been printed and only about 40 trillion circulates, which leaves 67 trillion outside the banks. A currency exchange is how a state brings it back in.
Money is moving too. The Prime Minister sat down with American banks and asked them in, as covered in Iraq invites America's banks. Then the four heads of the state put the economy next on the page, which we read in Iraq enters the final stretch. Many other questions on this topic are answered in our Iraqi dinar FAQ.

What does currency reset mean?
In our reading it is a sequence: lower the rate, replace the currency, raise the rate. The sequence is set out above, and the first step is done in Iraq.
Is the world changing to digital currency?
Some banks are testing it. Three UK banks completed their first interbank payments using tokenised deposits, as noted in our coverage of Iraq and American banks. Those rules decide how money moves. They do not decide what any currency is worth.
