The coalition that came to Iraq in 2014 closes its mission today, with the last soldiers gone since Sunday. On Tuesday, the day before that deadline, Iraq's cabinet voted through the PMF Service and Retirement Law and sent it to parliament: ranks, salaries, pensions and compensation for the families of the fallen, inside the state, for the fighters who bring their weapons in. The blocs also handed al-Zaidi the authority to fill the 9 empty cabinet chairs as one package once the Sovereignty Day ceremonies are over.
Kataib Hezbollah answered with a threat to police Iraqi airspace from October 1 and bring the government down. The same day Iraq's air force commander said every mission is now flown with complete independence from the coalition. In Baghdad the dollar climbed to 157,500 dinars per $100 while the promised cash shipment had still not landed, and the 2027 budget stays with the Council of Ministers ahead of October 15.
Today's Read puts the trade in one line, pensions for weapons, and shows the one time history ran it before: Colombia, 2016, where a state payroll and a legal door moved 8,994 weapons that 52 years of fighting could not.
