The heads of Iraq's four presidencies met on Monday and signed off on what they called the completion of the country's path to sovereignty. The coalition's mission ends September 30, and the next chapter, in their words, is economic and trade cooperation, with measures ordered to protect the economy. They also backed an exemption for Najaf airport, and Iraqi Airways flights between Najaf and Iran were running again the same day.
October is loaded. From October 1, Iraqi importers must pay customs duties before their dollars leave the bank. The principles for bringing weapons under state control are due in the first days of the month. The 2027 budget, the document that carries the exchange rate Iraq will spend its money at, is due in parliament by October 15. The war next door has cost Iraq about $60 billion, and the street rate in Baghdad climbed back to 156,500 dinars per $100 on Monday.
