Iraqi Dinar Brief - August 24, 2026: Will the Dinar Strengthen or Collapse?

Over one weekend, Iraq moved the currency question out of the committee rooms and onto the evening news. The central bank governor told parliament the current monetary stance is a "gradual transition." An economist held up 50 years of charts and showed the country what actually makes a currency hold its value. And the finance minister asked for the podium to read out, in public, why the old arrangement cannot hold.

State television framed it as one question: after the zeros come off, does the dinar strengthen or collapse? No government teaches its people how money works, seals its borders against cash, and walks them through redenomination on prime time in order to preside over a collapse. Collapse does not need a curriculum.

Then the detail the community dug up itself: the mill that prints the dinar's security paper answers to a parent company building central bank digital systems in the same London consortium as Ripple. The paper leg and the digital leg of the next system share one roof. Nothing about that will ever be announced. It only needed to be filed, and it was.
