July 3, 2026. Iraq's central bank formally joined the anti-corruption campaign this week. On July 2 the CBI governor received the head of the Federal Integrity Commission at bank headquarters and agreed to form a joint team against money smuggling, built on proactive oversight and real-time data exchange between the bank and the prosecutors. The governor ran the bank's anti-money-laundering office before taking the chair, and that office holds the file on every suspicious transaction in Iraq's banking system. The prime minister's senior legal advisor put stolen public funds since 2003 above 2 trillion dollars, 6 times the old official benchmark, and confirmed the trials will be public. First returns are already logged: more than 106 million dollars in cash, 70 properties, vehicles and gold.

Iraqi press, relaying an Asharq Al-Awsat account, adds the detail that recasts the whole week: the prime minister reportedly planned the arrest operation in secret with a closed circle of officers and never told the bloc that nominated him. They were not overruled. They were never asked.
