June 15, 2026. Over the weekend the war with Iran was declared over. The world heard peace. On the same day, with almost no one reporting it, Baghdad quietly secured both of its oil routes. This is what the peace actually pays for.

Donald Trump posted that the deal with Iran is complete and ordered the naval blockade lifted, with the signing set for Friday in Switzerland. The same day, Iraq's Army Chief of Staff flew to Erbil and signed a security agreement protecting Kurdistan's oil fields. Both of Iraq's export routes came back online at once - the southern Gulf passage and the northern pipeline up through Turkey.

Europe moved within hours. Britain, France, Germany and Italy signaled they are ready to lift their Iran sanctions, which starts pulling down the wall that kept Iraq's banks out of the global payment system. The Central Bank of Iraq confirmed its reform has reached its second phase, with compliant banks cleared to move foreign currency again.

The oil money the blockade choked off, around 7 billion dollars a month, starts flowing back to the budget that holds the dinar's rate. The cabinet still has nine seats to fill, and parliament returns July 1.
